That’s 89.2% of all illegal entry routes. Small boats are not a route among many — they ARE the route.

The Rwanda deterrent scheme was scrapped by the incoming government. Replacement policy: the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Command. Result so far: 41,472 arrivals.

Each arrival enters the asylum system. Each claim takes months to process. Each month costs hotel beds and support payments.

The question isn’t whether the boats should stop. It’s why, after billions spent, they haven’t.
